CAO is a highly progressive cigar manufacturer that is always looking for innovative ways to spice up the premium cigar industry with new and exciting blends that defy the norm. However, now the company has taken a giant step backwards with the CAO Pilon Robusto cigars. Turning back the clock, the company is employing an old 19th century Cuban method of tobacco fermentation, called the circular pilon. In a traditional pilon, the tobacco is sorted into a giant square stack. In a circular pilon, the tobaccos are meticulously placed in a circular pattern that ferments the tobacco at a slower rate of speed, thus enhancing its maturation and flavor. This Pilon fermentation process is applied to a long filler blend of Nicaraguan and Dominican tobaccos that are covered by a rare and gorgeous Ecuador Habano Viso wrapper. The end result is a medium bodied smoke with a deep earthy core that leads to complex nuances of cedar, spice, nuts, and hints of black pepper.
